Your website design plays a critical role in determining your success as a business because it directly affects how your users interact with your website. With increasing competition, you will have to make your website stand out from the crowd to succeed in today’s highly saturated cyberspace. That is where a custom web design agency  can come into play. Here are five web design principles that every web designer should know and follow religiously in order to create websites that stands out.

1.    Visual Hierarchy

What do you focus on first when you land on a website? Our eyes focus on visual elements that are most prominent or organized in a hierarchy because they attract your attention. Therefore, you should highlight the most important information prominently and provide visual clues to elements you want your website visitors to focus on. By using visual hierarchy to good effect, you can easily control your visitor focus and make them focus on where you want them to focus on.

2.             Rule of Thirds

A picture is worth a thousand words. Using high quality images can add to the visual appeal of your website. Rule of the thirds divides an image into nine equal parts with two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. Make sure that the image you use on your website complies with the rule of thirds. It will not only make your images look more balanced and will appeal to visitors even more.

3.             Hick’s Law

Gone are days when designer used to try their best cram everything in their web design. Today, they follow the less is more approach to design. They follow Hick’s Law, which says that every new choice you offer to user will increase the time to take a decision. You do not want to confuse your website visitor by presenting a cluttered website layout in front of them. The more options users have when using your website; it will have a negative impact on the user experience of your website.

4.            Fitt’s Law

Fitt’s Law further endorses the point of putting your most important post first. It states that the time required to move to a target area is a function of the distance to the target and the size of the target. In simple terms, the bigger and closer it is to user the easier it is to use. That does not mean that you should follow this rule irrespective of screen size and resolution. You need to consider all aspects when designing a website.

5.             Gastalt Design Law

Gastalt design is a theory that focuses on mind and brain. It clearly defines how our eye behaves. According to Gastalt Design Law, human eye sees objects in their entirety before perceiving their individual elements. It help you design websites that win the hearts of the users because it tells you how people will perceive something, which make it easy for you to tweak your web design accordingly.
