Cadence Insurance, TX, Umbrella InsuranceAn umbrella insurance policy provides you with protection beyond your regular auto and home insurance coverage. This type of policy gives you extra protection in two ways; it increases the dollar amount of your protection and covers you for situations that may not be covered under your standard policy. Increased dollar amount An umbrella or excess liability policy gives you protection over the limits of regular homeowners insurance. If someone is injured on your property, your regular insurance will cover medical bills or lawsuits up to a specific amount. This amount normally ranges from $25,000 to $500,000. Unfortunately, lawsuits up to $1,000,000 are not uncommon. If you have higher assets, an umbrella policy will protect your assets and future earnings. Your umbrella protection also covers your liability for property damage you, or a family member, cause to others. If you are at fault in an auto accident, and destroy someone's Rolls Royce, your extra liability coverage protects your assets. If you own rental property, an umbrella policy covers you for claims made against you as the property owner. Broader liability coverage In addition to the higher dollar protection, your umbrella liability covers you against claims of libel or slander. Other personal liability issues include malicious prosecution, false arrest and claims of mental anguish. Individual policies differ in exact protection, but your umbrella policy covers the gaps that you may have in your regular policies. This coverage takes over after the limits have been reached through your standard insurance. Do understand that an umbrella policy is not a flood or earthquake insurance policy. You still need specific coverage for these events. The extra liability coverage is not a replacement for special riders on your TX home insurance policy. Riders are designed to give you coverage beyond the normal limits for rare collections, fine artwork and high-value jewelry. When you look at insurance quotes, make sure that the policy provides the protection you need. Content provided by Transformer Marketing.
