Now that you have decided what information is going on your resume and what format you’re going to use, it’s time to think about what you should and shouldn’t say.

Believe it or not, applicants use common buzzwords that are sure to get a pass on your resume. According to LinkedIn the top 10 overused buzzwords that recruiters do not like seeing are:

1. Responsible
2. Strategic
3. Creative
4. Effective
5. Patient
6. Expert
7. Organizational
8. Driven
9. Innovative
10. Analytical

Rather than using the most common buzzwords it has been suggested to use these terms instead:

1. Achieved
2. Improved
3. Trained/Maintained
4. Managed
5. Created
6. Influenced
7. Increased/Decreased
8. Negotiated
 9. Launched
10. Under Budget

Although none of the words above are written in stone to get your resume read or passed, this list can help you really stand out. One important part to remember when describing your job duties is to describe in general and easy to understand terms. Do not assume that the reader knows exactly what job you held or any industry jargon. Keep it clear and descriptive.
