The Jordan Insurance Group, MD, Baltimore Speaker SeriesOne event series that many residents in the Baltimore area look forward to each year is the Baltimore Speaker Series. The Baltimore Speaker Series is commonly made up of seven different lectures, all of which happen on several different evenings each year. The location of the upcoming Baltimore Speaker Series is the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in downtown Baltimore, as it has been since the program's inception. The Baltimore Speaker Series invites seven distinguished speakers each year to share their thoughts with those in attendance and lecture on a wide variety of different topics. Previous speakers have included such distinguished guests as Colin Powell, Madeleine Albright, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and more. One of the main draws of the Speaker Series isn't just that these individuals are speaking at all. Instead, it has to do with the way that these lectures take shape. Events in the Speaker Series often take a bit of a "behind the scenes" approach to a person's life. If you were hearing Colin Powell speak, for example, you wouldn't hear a dry lecture about information and events as it was presented in the press. Instead, you would hear Powell speak much more anecdotally and personally about international affairs, politics, history, current events and nearly everything in between. Another interesting aspect of the Baltimore Speaker Series is the built-in question and answer portion of the program. At two separate times during each event, ushers will make their way through the audience and collect written questions from those in attendance. The speaker who is present will then have the opportunity to answer those questions in great detail. Some of the speakers who lectured during the 2013 to 2014 Baltimore Speaker Series include Steve Wozniak, who was the co-founder of Apple Computers. Others included Dave Barry, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and columnist, Jon M. Huntsman, Jr, the former ambassador to China and Singapore, and Bill Bryson, the bestselling humorist and author. April 1, 2014 will see Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. make his debut in the Speaker Series. In addition to being the former ambassador to China and Singapore, he was also the former governor of Utah and was also a candidate for the 2012 presidential nomination for the Republican party. April 22 will see Dave Barry make his speaking debut. He has written a wide variety of different books about quirky and humorous topics, including the recently released "Insane City." He won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1988 and had a syndicated humor column for the Miami Herald from 1983 until its conclusion in 2005. The Baltimore Speaker Series traditionally occurs between September and April of each year. Tickets can be purchased both on the official Series website and at the box office.
