The Jordan Insurance Group, MD, Iron Girl MarathonThe goal of the Iron Girl event series is to provide an opportunity for women to come together as a community and participate in health, exercise and fitness events regardless of age. One such event in the series is the Iron Girl Half Marathon taking place in Columbia, Maryland on April 27, 2014. Whether you've lived in the Columbia area for your entire life or are just coming into town for the big event, the half marathon is notable for a few different reasons. For starters, it's truly a great way to get outside, participate in healthy running activities and really get the chance to become one with Mother Nature. The half marathon begins in the Howard Hughes parking lot and continues along Little Patuxent Parkway. Individuals participating in the marathon will then continue along with parkway, which itself rests at around the halfway mark between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. Runners will get the opportunity to go past the main campus of Howard County Community College and will see the 1,000+ acre Clarksville Environmental Area that is situated on the western edge of the Columbia area. Runners will also get to pass through residential areas and see areas like Watch Chain Way, Cedar Lane and Harmel Drive. The next few miles will wrap through more residential areas until all runners wind up back at the Columbia Mall parking lot. Both the Iron Girl half marathon, as well as the 5K that is happening at the same time, are scheduled to begin promptly at 7:00 AM. Due largely to the size of the areas where the race will be starting and finishing, as well as the areas that runners will pass through, the half marathon is limited to only 5,000 entrants. Runners will be given three hours and 40 minutes to complete the entire half marathon. When you divide that number by the 13.1 miles present in the marathon, that gives runners around 16 minutes to complete run mile in order to finish the marathon on time. More information (including a course map) is available on the official Iron Girl website. Content provided by Transformer Marketing.
