Earlier this year, both Anthem BlueCross BlueShield and Premera BlueCross BlueShield experienced a sophisticated cyber-attack on their information technology systems – resulting in a major data breach of customer information. Both insurance companies have also indicated that a small percentage of CareFirst members may be affected as well. In our ongoing efforts to protect your sensitive data – we at The Jordan Insurance Group, want you to be fully aware of the options that are available to you at this time. Since the initial notification, CareFirst has been working diligently with Premera and Anthem to review and verify the number of current and former CareFirst members potentially affected. At this time, it is believed to be a very small portion of the total individuals affected, around 0.5%. The investigation has determined that the attackers may have gained unauthorized access to information such as: name, address, date of birth, Social Security Numbers (SSNs), member identification numbers, claims information and clinical information. The information involved dates back to 2002, but there is no evidence to date that shows any information being used inappropriately at this time. In response, Premera and Anthem are providing two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to those whose information was compromised. Premera and Anthem will be sending letters to all affected individuals by April 20, 2015. CareFirst will be contacting you directly if your SSN has been compromised, otherwise they will be sending letters under the name “Anthem, Inc”. If you believe you are affected by this incident and have not yet received a letter, we urge you to contact the dedicated support number listed below.
