3 Non-Negotiable Tasks to Complete Before Your Summer Road Trip

R. David Bulen Insurance, CA, Car MaintenanceEven though you can hardly contain the excitement for your road trip with the family, it is important to slow down and make sure you are amply prepared. Summer road trips are a fun way to bond with your family while exploring everything the country has to offer, but that doesn’t mean they are without problems. So before you hit the road for your summer trip, make sure to do these three things: Get a Full Tune Up Don’t just check your fluids and tire pressure yourself and consider the job done. It is important that you take your car in to a professional mechanic to make sure your entire car is in working order. Have him check the tires and fluids, of course, but also have your battery, belt, and air conditioner inspected. Because the last thing you want is to spend half of your family trip in a hotel while you wait for your car to get repaired. Equip Your Car Even though you hope that an emergency situation doesn’t happen during your road trip, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare for one. Stock up your car with the essential items you will need if you get stranded somewhere. For example, include enough water for the entire family, blankets, jumper cables, a flashlight, everything you need to change a tire, and a fully stocked first aid kit. It is also a good idea to have a car charger with you so that your phone can maintain a full charge for the whole trip. Don’t Drive Drowsy Yes, you are anxious to get to your destination, but that doesn’t mean you should put your family’s lives at risk by continuing to drive when you feel drowsy. You may think you can push through, but that is often when the worst accidents occur. So make sure you get a good night’s sleep before hitting the road, and, if possible, switch off drivers every few hours. It may take you a little longer to reach your endpoint, but at least you will all get there in one piece. Contact R.
