Motorsports Associations Insurance

American Specialty — Motorsports Associations Insurance

American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services offers a specialized Motorsports Associations Insurance program designed for organizations that run events, sanction races, operate tracks, and support motorsports membership activities year-round. This program is written through experienced markets and delivered by an MGA with in-house underwriting, claims, risk management, and policy administration to help you place motorsports risks efficiently.

Eligible operations

Typical classes we place include:

  • Sanctioning bodies and sanctioning organizations
  • Super speedways, short-track ovals, and road courses
  • Independent car clubs and race teams
  • Karting facilities and driving schools
  • Special events tied to motorsports (club meets, charity races)

Coverage highlights and advantages

  • Comprehensive General Liability with participant legal liability extensions
  • Automobile and excess/umbrella capacity
  • Property, Liquor Liability, Crime, and Workers’ Compensation options
  • Participant Accident Medical and Catastrophic Medical coverage
  • Employee Benefits Liability and Deductible / SIR options
  • Program-specific forms and rating — not a generic manuscript
  • Admitted coverage where available; 24-hour claims service and in-house claims handling

Why agents use this program

This program is built for brokers who need market access for motorsports-related accounts that require tailored forms and experienced handling. American Specialty’s team provides nimble underwriting decisions and program-level tools so you can quote and bind faster. Carriers vary by account to match capacity with exposure, and the MGA manages policy servicing centrally.

Underwriting appetite and typical fit

Good-fit accounts generally have organized safety protocols, club or track-managed events, clear participant waivers where applicable, and vintage or purpose-built competition environments. The program prefers established operations over high-frequency, high-hazard amateur events without documented safety controls.

Commonly acceptable: licensed tracks, incorporated sanctioning bodies, established driving schools, sanctioned kart facilities, and race teams with experienced crew and safety plans. Generally less suited: informal neighborhood racing, unregulated drift events, or operations with poor loss control and no safety oversight.

Underwriting notes & minimums

Underwriting focuses on safety management, event frequency, participant screening, and onsite emergency plans. Minimum premiums and available limits vary by state and carrier; provide complete submission materials (operations description, recent loss runs, safety procedures, membership size, and event schedules) for accurate quoting.

Territories & admitted status

Admitted coverage is available where permitted; program availability includes the following states:

AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, DC, WV, WI, WY.

Example scenarios

  • You have a client that runs a sanctioned short-track oval with seasonal races and club events — the program can combine liability, auto, and participant accident coverage with a deductible structure that fits the club’s budget.
  • A regional driving school wants auto liability for instructor vehicles, participant accident coverage, and property protection for its paddock and garages — the program’s tailored forms and admitted placements simplify placement and claims handling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of motorsports accounts are a good fit for this program?

Accounts with organized operations, documented safety procedures, sanctioned events, licensed tracks, race teams, driving schools, and kart facilities are the best fit. Informal or unregulated events with poor loss control are typically declined.

What information should I include with a submission?

Provide a detailed operations description, event schedules, membership counts, recent loss runs (usually 3–5 years), safety and emergency response plans, waiver forms, and any facility inspection or maintenance records.

Is coverage admitted in all states listed?

The program places admitted coverage where admitted markets are available and appropriate. Availability and form options vary by state and carrier; please confirm state availability on each submission.

How are carriers and limits determined?

Carrier placement and limit capacity are determined by exposure profile, safety controls, loss history, and the specific operations being insured. The MGA selects markets to match the risk rather than using a one-size-fits-all carrier.

Can I add participant accident or catastrophic medical coverage to an existing liability placement?

Yes — participant accident and catastrophic medical options are commonly packaged with liability for clubs, driving schools, and sanctioned events. Provide participant exposure details so the underwriter can quote appropriate limits and terms.

AGENCY LICENSING

Licensing
Each state’s regulatory department requires licensing for any broker soliciting coverage within that state. Failure to maintain proper licensing status can result in penalties not only to the broker, but also to the insurer. Therefore, in addition to the completed Broker Agreement, we require that you provide the following:

1.      A copy of your resident license and, if applicable, non-resident licenses for each state in which you have an account insured with our program.

2.      A copy of your agency’s corporate license issued by your state's Department of Insurance.
