Ask Your Peers  Workers Comp / Hawaii / Clerical - 1 part-time employee

I have a pest control business insured in AZ that has a part-time clerical employee (works from home) in Hawaii. I am not licensed in Hawaii so I'm looking for someone willing to write a small minimum premium clerical only policy.

Thanks!

Have you tried adding "other states" endorsement into the existing AZ WC coverage... to pick up coverage for the Hawaiian staff member? It seems like it would cost more to purchase a separate policy for one clerical worker in a separate state than to add into existing coverage.

I don't think you understand the "other states" endorsement. That endorsement is not for employees that live in the other state, it's for employees temporarily in other states.

Add Hawaii as a covered state and include the payroll & class. You shouldn't need a separate policy.

Current carrier can only add Hawaii if they use a different writing company which increases the total policy premium by about $2,000. They won't write a separate policy for me because I'm not licensed in Hawaii. See original post. This is what I need. Thanks.

Apologies - your original post did not include this detail. Reach out to Sue at Jerry Hay, Inc. in Honolulu, (808) 521.1841, website http://www.jerryhay.com/ and please give her my very best - I miss working with her now that I'm not an underwriter in HI anymore. Not sure she will be able to help but she's truly wonderful and I think if she can, she will!

Best,

Have you checked with Hawaii to see how complicated adding "non-resident producer license" would be? I remember doing Minnesota and AZ for a client and it not costing much nor taking long.

I used to have a hawaii license. If I had anything other than a minimum prem wc policy it might be worth it, I may still check it out. Thanks.

I suppose you might consider the entire account premium and keeping control of the entire account, vs just the Hawaii exposure and license costs.
