Ask Your Peers  Unacceptable Exclusions to Ryland Homes and Meritage Homes (Closed)

I need an admitted company that will write an Artisan Contractor, who installs metal strips to rafters of new homes (as they are being built) to give extra strength/support during a windstorm/hurricane. The surplus lines companies have too many exclusions that the Builders (Ryland Homes, Meritage Homes) wont accept.

Most standard markets won't write sub tract work. What exclusions are objectionable on the surplus lines quotes? I am a Wholesale broker and have found markets are willing to work with us in this 'soft' market on some of them. If you'd like give me a call - 559 447 1944 - We have over 90 construction markets. Depending on size of the risk, state they are doing the work in, size of the tracts (asuming rather sizeable due to the builder names, etc... will depend on what we might be able to help you with.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for using CompleteMarkets!

Our FindIt Market search is a valuable tool that enables you to search by market and state to find companies that can help you write this risk.

I have completed a search for companies that provide Artisan Contractor in Texas, here is a link to the search results.
I checked the results and there were only two companies that were admitted. Continental Risk is admitted in some states  here's a link to their storefront where you can request a quote. BTIS is admitted in all available states, here's a link to their storefront.
I suggest that you include in the comment section that the artisan contractor installs metal strips to rafters.

Admitted markets are typically even more restrictive than non-admitted, so I'm not sure an admitted carrier will solve your problem. I don't know the TX marketplace or the residential construction issues (I'm in CA - LOTS of challenges in residential construction here, even without windstorm or hurricane issues), so the only thing I'd advise is to find a carrier who will offer what you're looking for, admitted or not (i.e., forget about that distinction for now, as an ASLI, I use surplus lines carriers a lot, and am guessing you'll end up there). Just out of curiosity, what are the exclusions that are proving problematic? And do you have, or can you find, an intermediary/wholesaler who deals with multiple construction markets?

Okay, I was writing my post when Susanne Waite posted. She's exactly who I had in mind in my last question, I just wasn't sure she wrote in TX. She and Partners Specialty group are our "go to" on construction risks, really do have multiple multiple markets (I've never counted, but I will believe 90). If you want answers, my best advice is to call her.

Susanne,

I just noticed that your company name (in your profile) is misspelled.

Is Dave's estimate of the number of construction markets you have - 90 markets, accurate?

Oh, never mind, I didn't read far up enough. That was your estimate - "We have over 90 construction markets".
