The recent Obamacare article from Fox Business news “sparked” my interest. It explains some of the penalties the consumers will incur if they are classified as a tobacco user. So how do we advise our clients under the new program?

The legislation was designed to prevent discrimination based on pre-existing health conditions. Anyone had this discussion with a client yet?

Thank you.

The simple fact is this --- insurance companies base rates on risk. If they don't charge smokers more, then everyone pays more. Why should a nonsmoker pay more because someone chooses to smoke? Smoking isn't free. Quit smoking. That solves the problem.
