We are a non-resident agency that specializes in an unique program market niche and we have several clients in Myrtle Beach SC. We are frequently asked by our Myrtle Beach clients to help them with insurance for businesses that they own that fall outside of our program niche. Generally, these businesses would normally fit with our standard BOP markets. Our standard BOP markets will not write within 25 miles of the coast for our agency.

It seems that the general BOP business and standard personal lines markets that are available in coastal areas are mostly reserved for agencies that have physical locations in those specific coastal communities.

Is there a broker, GA (or similar) or some sort of cooperative arrangement that an independent non-resident agency can access for standard personal and small business markets in coastal areas such as Myrtle Beach?

Rand, I could not help but notice "Myrtle Beach" and the many golf courses that line the waterfront. They're not BOPs, but if you handle any golf courses there, Venture's Preferred Club program underwrites with & without Wind deductibles through multiple markets. Contact Rob Mulhern at 800-282-6247 ext 257 or email [email protected] to discuss an account. Great area!

Hi Rand!

We might be able to help you out with some of those BOP risks. In discussing the situation with an underwriter at one of our companies, he indicated that they can usually write BOPs inside that 25 mile range that you mentioned. Their hard limit is about two miles from the coast. Anything under 5 miles from the coast will be reviewed closely for construction type, etc before binding. In a nutshell, they will decline any frame structures that close to the ocean. Wind deductibles between 1-5% apply and are based on proximity to the shoreline. Of course, all normal eligibility requirements and underwriting must be met as well.

If you have any submissions you would like to send in, they can be sent to [email protected].
