I had a customer come in today wanting to get a quote on his Logging Insurance. Erie Insurance has wrote him right now. His trucks are over 80k pounds and haul logs. Has anybody see this or any Erie agents on here sell this product. I don't think its wrote right and if they do write Loggers for the price thats on this Dec page I will bring them into the Office.
Policy says Commercial Auto Policy Fleet

Thanks

Dear John,

I do not know about Erie, but I know Philadelphia has a program for loggers and foresters you may want to check out.

Thank You,

I didn't know Erie wrote those types of accounts. GMI writes some logging contractors, though. Next time you come across a risk, please give us a call at 800-722-3229 ext 237. Good luck.

I can tell you they have made me frustrated on several occasions. I have had several larger construction operations give me the go ahead to quote. Typically, they dabble in a couple of industries that may be related. For example, Hauling for others and excavations. Certainly can see how one would get involved in these related industries. These large premium accounts are very attractive! On several occasions, we would be willing to bet that Erie doesn't know what the risk is doing. There would be no way they would do it for the premium they were paying. Then, to make things worse, we could never find another company to write the operations on one policy! On these few occasions, we suggested that they remain where they are. Now I can't speak of the claims process or if they would deny coverage based on the class the agent had them in, but they appeared to be very flexible and competitive!

Hello John,

I did some research and found several companies that can help you with Logging Insurance.

Click here to request a quote from all three at the same time.

Good luck.

Not in their target appetite, but doesn't mean they wouldn't consider it. Unless they are cancelling it- probably not worth the time to compete.

As an Erie agent your statement of ..."we'll bring them into the office" brings a smile to my face. That's why Erie can do what they can do...they avoid the Big I agents like the plague. Best of luck.

Erie around here knocks on every Ind Agents office once a month. Erie is like the Plague they like 3 Independents right in a row here. All 3 compete against each other. Hell I get a free lunch out of them.
Erie must not be writing this risk because Robert didn't answer and the customer just got his agent to fax over a dec page and they have his semi's wrote a Dump Trucks. There will be a a.s chewing going on very soon by the customer.

We write a ton of logging operations throughout Tennessee. We also have Erie. Erie has the ability to write logging auto and inland marine. It is a home office referred class but with some premium behind it they will definitely make an exception especially with newer trucks and equipment. Also, Robert is correct - good luck getting them.

Thanks Justin. The rep that keeps coming by I will call him Monday and setup a meeting. I was wondering how they can do a logging truck for $1700 a year but with the dec page I see how now. Trucks are wrote wrong

I am kinda surprised that Erie is knocking on doors to get agencies appointed. It must be state specific as in my state you were be hard pressed to get appointed with them even if you reach out to them.
