How crucial is it to review DI vs. CI for a client?

Is one better than the other? Can I provide CI in place of health insurance?

Joseph,

I would say that if a client is looking for coverage only in a situation of conditions like Alzheimer's, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's, etc. then they could get Critical Illness insurance to pay for the costs of the care/treatment. I don't think it should replace health insurance, since health insurance is a preventative insurance plan. There are different types of disability insurance, but the main difference between critical illness and disability insurance is disability insurance will cover lost income due to the individual's disability makes working impossible, uncomfortable, or painful. Disability insurance doesn't cover the cost of care/treatment, recuperation aids, etc it covers income lost because of the inability to work.

I agree with what Patricia says. These types of insurance should be used to supplement preventative health care insurance, never to replace it.
