As soon as Monday April 22nd, travelers nationwide could face flight delays because of the federal spending cuts, with delays averaging 10, 20, and 30 minutes at major hub airports during peak periods, but soaring on days when controller furloughs force airports to shut down runways.
This impact is going to be uneven at hub airports. This is due to the different volumes of configurations.
Keep in mind that you may fall victim to these delays and in an effort to predict the impact, FAA studied actual airport traffic at 13 major airports on March 29, a clear weather Friday. Mondays and Fridays traditionally are the busiest air travel days.
