Many homeowners take the standard homeowners insurance, but how many of them are properly covered based on their location?
What would you offer your clients in addition to their standard homeowners insurance policy?
Let me know what you think, take the poll here!
About 300 homes have been destroyed in the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs, the most recent of fire outbreaks Colorado. More than 6 fires have threatened various areas of Colorado, leaving many homeowners without residence and fearful of the future. All standard homeowner’s policies cover wildfires, but another thing to keep in mind is the increased potential for flash floods following wildfires.
The issue lies in the damage caused by the fires to the surrounding brush and vegetation. If rain follows the fires the risk for flash flooding increases exponentially. How many of those Colorado homeowners have flood insurance? Colorado isn’t a location known to have severe flooding, but with the lack of plant life to help absorb the rain fall there is a severe risk for flooding as well as landslides.
Talk to your clients about this and encourage them to add the flood protection to keep their minds at ease in case another natural disaster occurs. Unfortunately, this time is extremely sensitive and emotional for many of your clients, but by being there for them in support and information you can come out the hero of the situation and really do well for your clients.
