Ideal Accounts and Appetite
This program targets tree trimming and arboriculture operations rather than timber or logging businesses. Typical accounts that fit the appetite include:
- Independent tree care contractors
- Licensed arborists and dedicated tree service companies
- Landscaping firms where tree trimming is a primary exposure
- Municipal tree care and public works vegetation crews
Operations with logging, lumbering, timberland management, or extensive sawmill exposures do not fit this program.

Underwriting Notes and Minimum Premiums
Minimum premiums vary by risk characteristics and coverage selections. Underwriters prefer accounts that demonstrate documented safety programs, certified arborist credentials, routine equipment maintenance, and a strong loss-control history. Additional insureds can be added individually or via a blanket endorsement to simplify certificate issuance.
Territories and Availability
This program is available on a non-admitted basis in the following states: AK, CA, ID, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, WA, and WY. Writing on a non-admitted basis provides flexibility to place non-standard or challenging risks that may not fit admitted markets.
Why Work With Cochrane & Company?
As a Managing General Agency specializing in niche commercial programs, Cochrane & Company gives agents access to competitive carriers and responsive underwriting tailored to tree care operations. Their underwriting team understands the industry-specific risks—such as pesticide application, aerial lift operations, and property damage from falling limbs—and can structure limits and endorsements to address those exposures.
Agents benefit from streamlined submissions, flexible additional-insured options, and loss-control resources designed for arborists and tree service providers.
Example fits you might place through this program:
- A licensed arborist business performing residential pruning, tree planting, and occasional removals seeking CGL limits to $1M/$2M with inland marine for chippers and bucket trucks.
- A municipal tree maintenance contractor that applies pesticides and needs applicator coverage plus a blanket additional insured endorsement for city contracts.
