General Liability Insurance for Door and Window Installers

Window and door installers face a distinct mix of on-site and off-site exposures. Many firms operate a showroom or retail space while also performing installations at residential and commercial job sites. That dual exposure creates potential for property damage, third-party bodily injury, and job-site liability—risks that require a focused general liability solution.

Novatae Risk Group offers a dedicated General Liability Insurance for Door and Window Installers program, underwritten by Empire Underwriters, built for small to mid-sized contractors. The program targets contractors who perform interior and exterior door and window installations in new construction and replacement work, and provides policy features that help meet common contractual and project-based requirements.

Targeted Accounts and Market Focus

This program is designed for contractors with less than $1,000,000 in annual payroll engaged primarily in:

  • Interior and exterior door installation
  • Window installation for new homes and remodeling projects
  • Commercial and residential replacement work

Examples of appropriate submissions: a contractor who installs windows for single-family home remodels, or a shop that sells and installs interior doors for small commercial buildouts—provided the account meets program guidelines.

Eligible and Ineligible Risks

  • Acceptable: New residential and commercial construction, including single-family homes
  • Acceptable: Repair and remodeling projects
  • Required: At least 75% of operations must fall within the program’s approved class codes

Generally ineligible:

  • New construction of condominiums, condominium conversions, and townhouses (some exceptions may apply)
  • Projects involving structures taller than three stories (exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis)

Coverage Features

  • Blanket Additional Insured endorsements to help satisfy contractual requirements
  • Waiver of Subrogation options
  • Primary and Non-Contributory wording
  • Per-Project Aggregate limits
  • Subsidence and Prior Projects coverage available with limitations

These features are aimed at reducing gaps in coverage and helping your insureds meet owner/GC and vendor contract conditions tied to installations.

Submission Requirements

  • Completed ACORD applications
  • 3 to 5 years of currently valued loss runs
  • Supplemental application
  • Project-specific pollution application, if applicable

Minimum Premium and Carrier Strength

Minimum premiums start at $1,500. Coverage can be placed through admitted and non-admitted carriers, including markets rated as high as A-XV, giving flexibility where admitted paper may not be available.
