If your client is freaking out about their first (or 10th) accident and want to know what is going to happen next, here is some helpful information on the settlement procedure...
1. The claim will be estimated; this might require a claims adjuster to investigate, but after all of the documentation is gathered the insurance company will issue a settlement offer.
2. To little? Sometimes the adjuster will under-estimate the claim, which will require the insured to request for additional funds
3. Demand more! If the estimate won't cover the full cost of repairs, a demand letter can be sent outlining why the insured wants additional funds
4. Lets Negotiate. This is when the insurance agency and the insured will negotiate a fair settlement offer to cover the necessary costs of the accident claim. Sometimes this may require a lawyer or speaking with higher authorized personnel like management.
Its important to understand that as an insured they do not have to accept the initial offer of settlement. They have the right to request for additional damages, just advise them not to try and be rich from the settlement, there is such thing as insurance fraud...
