Okahoma has a new workers compensation law that is causing a lot of turmoil. Among other things, the law changes Oklahoma’s court-based system to an administrative one. The supporters say the change will dramatically reduce workers’ compensation costs to businesses, but opponents have said any cost savings will come at the expense of injured workers. Those oppose have said that this law violates the state Constitution in several ways and should be struck down. The new law was challenged in a lawsuit filed in September. Oklahoma City attorney John McMurry said the lawsuit is not an attack on the Legislation’s attempt to transform Oklahoma’s workers’ compensation system into an administrative system. Instead the lawsuit attacks Provisions of the law that would unconstitutionally delay an injured worker’s access to the state’s court to seek compensation. This would allow employers to “opt-out” of the administrative system and create their own benefit plan for injured workers.

What do you think of the new workers compensation law that has caused so much discussion in Oklahoma?
