I have been told this does not exist and this is my last effort to find one - does anyone know of a market that will write an HO4 for a college kid? In this particular case he will be off campus but living in housing that caters to college kids in Columbia SC.

Thanks
Ann

Try HICI. Not for sure if they are writing Renters in SC yet.

Hi Ann,

Depending on who the parents are insured with, you may be able to endorse the secondary location onto that policy for GL and property coverage. This is what I do for my son at college.

If that does not work Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. does insurance for College students through AIG.

I believe Universal Property and Casualty as well as Gulfstream do HO4 in So Carolina for students assuming they meet other UW criteria. This should be simple. Also Moore and Assoc is whom I have sent my florida friends to when writing in S.C. 843-238-1416. Since they are beachside they have the broader markets who allow more risk tolerance.

Thanks Greg. I thought they would also and I actually called Universal yesterday and UW told me that no. Even though the apartment he will be living in is off campus it is considered student housing and that made him ineligible for them.

I had an U/W for one brokerage tell me that she had no market that would even consider him due to his being college age, not necessarily the student housing.

Thanks
Ann

Have you checked with the parent's homeowner carrier?
