DINOSAUR OF THE YEAR-A REMEMBRANCE 160 by Mike Manes 160 It was more than a banquet; it was an event-a celebration of a life of power and control. It was the annual Dinosaur of the Year program. The table setting was exquisite, the food exceptional, and pomp and circumstance to be expected. Excitement gripped the air. The emcee began his introduction. 160 As his comments filled the room, the audience collectively shook their heads. The winner was obvious. The speaker's superlatives could only be describing one individual. The audience waited in polite anticipation as the introduction reinforced what all attendees already knew. 160 Tonight, we gather to celebrate leadership and to recognize, not a leader, but rather the leader. This award applauds more than accomplishments: It recognizes dominance-absolute power and superiority. The winner is obvious-so I'll be brief. 160 Once in a lifetime, an individual, or shall we say, a force establishes a presence in our world so dominant that it shapes the environment rather than being shaped itself. Tonight's designee is such a character. 160 Simply stated, tonight's Dinosaur of the Year is big, and he's bad. He embodies tradition and the status quo. He laughs in the face of change. He crushes his opponents and the conflict they create. He sees diversity for the weakness that it is; he ignores the pop culture and ...

A lawyer on board had already started to collect names for a class-action suit. Silvo de Bortoli, general manager of the Cancun Resort and a legend throughout the organization for his ability to delight clients, got word of the horrendous flight and immediately created an antidote. He took half the staff to the airport, where they laid out a table of snacks and drinks and set up a stereo system to play lively music. As the guests filed through the gate, they received a personal greeting, help with their bags, a sympathetic ear and a chauffeured ride to the resort. Waiting for them was a lavish banquet, complete with mariachi band and champagne. The staff had also rallied other guests to wait up and greet the newcomers, and the partying continued until dawn. Many guests said it was the most fun they had had since college. Now that's a recovery which, by the way, resulted in no lawsuits and clients who became raving fans! Now go and "Wow!" those clients again and again and create raving fans who will be your unpaid sales force! Lynn M. ... x No Thanks Loading.. The Art Of Award-Giving 4/30/2013 by Jack Burke This content has not been rated yet. Recently I had the privilege of attending the annual conference of the Association of Image Consultants International. Attendees, considered to be the best of the best' in their industry, represented 17 countries. Their firms deal with every facet of personal and corporate image. As dinner was cleared away from the banquet tables, Christina Ward, a former president of the association, began the presentation of their annual awards for outstanding performance within the industry. As she began to speak, I was captivated by her words. You see, as much as I acknowledge the need for awards, I'm always concerned about the people who aren't acknowledged. Christina truly captured the essence of what an award really means. Later, I asked her for a copy of the speech, and she obliged. You might consider it before your next awards presentation. THE AWARDS CHALLENGE' presented at the AICI Gala Awards Ceremony by Christina Ward, AICI Awards-why are they important? Some say they are ego trips, morale boosters, or competitive icons. I'm guessing those people have never received one! My 21-year-old daughter was working on the computer in my home office one day this past year and I popped my head in to see why I didn't hear any activity. She was staring at the wall. I said, What's up? ' She responded, I'm staring at the last four years of your life. She was looking at the plaques, certificates, and awards I have hanging ...
