... x No Thanks Loading.. Telecommuting to Your Virtual Office 8/17/2018 by CompleteMarkets Editor , LuNell Gilliland This content has not been rated yet. WHAT IS A VIRTUAL OFFICE? The virtual office concept, also known as telecommuting or a mobile office, emerged as the American work force shifted from physical labor to knowledge-based work. Workers who create or manipulate information can generally perform anywhere there is a telephone, desk, chair, and computer. Technology enables the knowledge-based worker's office to be portable. "Virtual," by Webster's definition, means "being such practically or in effect, although not in actual fact or name." Employees who work from home or some place other than the main office location are considered to be working in a virtual office. These employees are called telecommuters, a term coined in 1973 by Jack Nilles, a professor at the University of Southern California. A 1990 study estimated that 33 million people were telecommuting at that time, and the number continues to increase. To succeed in the highly competitive global economy, companies must adapt quickly to change. This includes creating assignment-oriented jobs rather than 9-to-5 jobs. Flexibility is the theme of business in the 1990s-and in the next millenium. A virtual office environment allows you and your business to perform in infinitely flexible ways. Let's review the pros and cons of creating a virtual office in the insurance industry. BENEFITS OF A VIRTUAL OFFICE TO THE AGENCY/COMPANY/VENDOR Generates greater productivity. Studies show that employees working in a virtual office are 15% to 30% more productive than their counterparts in ...

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.- Will Rogers Many agency principals and their staffs are still sitting where they were 10 years ago-literally. They're still on the same patch of carpet in the same corner of the same room. Physical arrangement of the office reflects a business philosophy. It speaks more loudly than any verbal pronouncements of management. It certainly makes workflow easier or harder than it would be otherwise. The Independent Agency System has changed in organizational structure, technology utilization, compensation strategy, and marketing approach; yet its physical plant remains markedly unchanged. But there are rumblings that a new shape' is on the horizon-so this might be a good time to study the physical requirements of The Agency of Tomorrow' and create an agency of choice, rather than an agency of tradition. WHERE THE PRINCIPAL SITS Leaders are not the head of an organization; they are its heart. They should situate themselves in the heart of the agency. Hearing the buzz of the agency provides a continuous reality check. This helps leaders make decisions based on the way things are, rather than how it's assumed they should be. Separation doesn't make the heart grow fonder; it makes the head more detached. When principals separate themselves, managers tend to follow suit. Managers are accountable for certain results-and when they can't see those who produce these results, they're operating under a considerable ...

FRAUDBUSTERS: HOW STAGED ACCIDENTS WORK (AN UNDERCOVER PERSPECTIVE) by Thomas Sarinana Capping' the unlawful solicitation and referral of staged auto accident cases to medical providers and attorneys for a fee-is a violation of Business and Professions Code 6152 and the California Insurance Code. As an investigator, I've worked undercover and have personally been paid capping or front monies by people working on behalf of doctors' and attorneys' offices. In every case, I was paid for my solicited participation in a staged auto accident or for referring other participants (other undercover officers) for the purpose of staging accidents. For the use of our Auto or other insurance, these other participants and I were paid $1 ,500 to $3 ,500 (cash) in every case, and $1 ,500 to $2 ,000 for referring another person to participate in the staged accident. In my experience, the crime of capping is usually tied in with the more serious criminal felonies of insurance fraud, grand theft, conspiracy, and other crimes. Cappers associate with attorneys and doctors, referring clients and patients to them for a fee. These unscrupulous doctors and attorneys currently pay capping or referral fees ranging from ...

... x No Thanks Loading.. Intranets: Your Office Efficiency Tool 6/3 /2013 by CompleteMarkets Editor , Steve Anderson This content has not been rated yet. Use these guidelines to create an effective, user friendly online information exchange system. Every agency needs to distribute information to employees so that they can do their jobs effectively. Access to current and correct information is becoming more critical. As your agency grows and adds staff, the problem of keeping employees informed becomes increasingly complicated. In the past, a standard way to disseminate information to employees was to photocopy the information and put it into each person's in-box. One of the problems with this approach is that you can't find that one piece of information when you need it because it's buried in a stack of paper. One of the best solutions is an agency intranet. An intranet provides an improved way to share information within your agency. It's actually a Web site that's designed to display information needed by the agency's internal staff. Although an intranet uses Internet technology, it's basically a collection of documents that reside on your network. An intranet offers a number of advantages in managing your agency information: Common Access. All documents are read using a Web browser, which provides an easier and more intuitive way to manage and display any type of information. Your staff is already using a browser to access information on the Internet. They can use the same method to access information specific to your agency needs. User-Friendly Navigation. As with any Web site, an intranet allows you to create links between different documents, Web sites, ...
