... industry's relationship with its customers. Read them and weep, if you're guilty. INSURED This one should be banished from the insurance dictionary. Use it and get your mouth washed with Borax. The insured'? For heaven's sake, it's the customer! Policyholder' is not quite as bad. Or maybe client. But not insured. CARRIER always cracks me up when I hear this. Okay, Mrs. Throttlebottom, I'll try to call a few carriers and see if they'll accept you as an insured. Sounds like the insurance company's located on a military battleship. How about just insurance company. It's that simple. EXPOSURE Oh, boy. This gets used a lot with the news media, and then we complain about our coverage. The exposure, of course, is simply the riskiness. A wood-shingle roof has a greater risk of burning than an asphalt roof. LINE Another word that is simply unnecessary. I prefer to talk about different types' of insurance. Line' makes sense to me if you're taking about retail products like shampoo and children's toys. But in this era of packaged, multiple-peril policies, the word just doesn't add to anyone's understanding about the product. SURPLUS Yes, you're laughing. My insurance executive students giggle when I display this word on poster-size type. It even looks as bad as it sounds. But every insurance pro in the room knows that he or she will fall back on this when someone asks them to explain how insurance companies managed to handle that last hurricane. Well, they have the surplus to fall back on. Surplus? I thought you said the ...

... some inconvenience such as minor damage to your property or short power outages. You might also experience some difficulty in leaving your home as there would be a moderate buildup of snow around your property. Winter Storm Warning Receiving this warning means that there is a severe and possibly life-threatening snowstorm headed your way within the next 24 hours. You should do all that is necessary to prepare for long periods without power, outside communication, or even running water. You should also stock supplies such as non-perishable food and water. What to Do BEFORE a Snowstorm Hits If you receive a winter storm advisory or warning, you should immediately begin preparing your home, property, and family for the incoming bad weather. Inspect your home's structure to ensure that it will hold up to the incoming snow, especially your roof and gutters. Secure all the entrances of your home, particularly your doors and windows, as drafts can dramatically decrease the temperature inside your home. Prepare a winter emergency kit that includes a strong, battery-powered radio, medical supplies, emergency blankets, and a shovel. You should also learn first-aid techniques against frostbite and hypothermia. If the weather agencies predict a long blizzard, you should also check if your generator is in good running condition and if it has enough fuel. What to Do DURING the Snowstorm When the snowstorm hits, you should always keep an eye on the temperature inside your home. If you still have power, increase the thermostat to the highest setting possible so that you and your family are kept warm. Turn on all your faucets to a slow drip to prevent ...

... x No Thanks Loading.. Five Ways To Improve Business Survival After A Windstorm 4/30/2013 by CompleteMarkets Editor , Douglas Henderson This content has not been rated yet. FIVE WAYS TO IMPROVE BUSINESS SURVIVAL AFTER A WINDSTORM by Doug Henderson For many businesses, windstorms present A worst-case disaster scenario. In addition to disabling or destroying business assets, as a community-wide disaster, a windstorm can disable employee homes, disrupt transportation, power and communication infrastructure. To mitigate damage and downtime to your business, I'd recommend these guidelines: 1. Protect the business building. In addition to facility location, consider the controls to put in place. Look for buildings with storm shutters or "storm-proof "glass. Consider the condition of the roof and the ability of roof equipment to withstand high winds. Beware of such structural weaknesses as large overhangs, large flat outer walls/gables or wood frame construction. 2. Protect your business assets. Be prepared to cover or encase and secure building contents with sheets of plastic or large plastic garbage pail bags. Make sure that you have emergency supplies in place. Move your business assets off the lower floors – and bear in mind note that wind-driven rain can create some "flooding" on upper level floors) . Consider moving these assets to a higher level or even to another building at a higher elevation. 3. Prepare for a loss of communications and power. Because a windstorm will disable or destroy most communications infrastructure, be sure to have some communication alternatives in place for employees, customers, clients ...
