... found in case we run out? ' need answers before a catastrophe hits. Store a minimum of one-half gallon of water per person per day for drinking, and have at least a three-day supply. Don't forget additional water for pets and for brushing teeth, bathing, and dishwashing. It is also wise to consider storing water for a longer period in the event of a major catastrophe affecting water supplies. (Ask victims of Hurricane Andrew!) The good news is, there may be other sources of water in your home to obtain water. Here are a few ideas: Use water drained from the hot-water heater, if it is still upright. Turn off the electricity/gas and close the inlet water valve. Drain water into a container from the faucet at the bottom of the tank. Use water dipped from the flush tank of toilets (not the bowl), but purify it before drinking. Melt ice cubes. Use liquid from canned fruit or vegetables. Do not drink water that is used in a water bed because the plastic may have released chemicals into it. Do not drink water from swimming pools or spas. Such water can be used for personal hygiene, but drinking it can cause permanent kidney damage because of high salt level, or it can cause diarrhea because of over-chlorination. With proper planning by everyone, there should be sufficient water when it is needed most during a catastrophe. Login or Register (for FREE) to gain access to thousands of other great articles. ... x No Thanks Loading.. How To Keep Your Sales From Running Out Of Gas 11/19/2014 by John Graham This content has not been rated yet. HOW TO KEEP YOUR SALES FROM RUNNING OUT OF GAS by John Graham Most of us have figured out that it's smart to have a least a few gallons of gas in the tank at all times. It's not very bright to see how far we can go before running out of gas. A couple of "come and get me" calls is usually all it takes before we get the message to head for the gas station before disaster strikes. Nevertheless, far too many businesses somehow missed this memo. Every day they are running out of gas and don't know how to find their way to the nearest pump. Now, if this seems somewhat obtuse, try this: Salespeople find themselves trying to run on empty and there's no gas station within 50 miles. Worse yet, they can't find their way to the pump even with a GPS. The message here is elementary: As salespeople, we let the good times deceive us. Because we were so successful, it didn't take much to convince ourselves that it would go on forever. However, as we all know, it didn't. Although all of this history, few, if any, salespeople and even fewer sales managers and business owners, have anything that even resembles plan B. Here's where things gets really interesting: These same companies honestly believed their strong sales figures were the direct result of their prospecting prowess, when there was absolutely no connection ...

... shutdown exposure 5.3 Insurance and Risk Funding Adequacy A continuous review of the risk and insurance management funding program should be maintained. Key items such as breadth of insurance coverage, significant exclusions, deductible exposures, self-insured retentions, limits of coverage including total available annual aggregate considerations should be continuously assessed. Other factors include the financial integrity of the insurance market utilized as well as the competency of the responsible insurance brokerage firms and assigned account service and executive teams. The process of establishing adequate insurance limits and values should involve planning and analyzing for the maximum foreseeable crises events. Consideration must be given to the accumulation of deductibles, self-insurance financial loss exposure and ultimate modification of experience rated insurance policies. An effective vehicle for determining adequate limits of coverage and realistic recovery time is the utilization of a risk management Think Tank' analysis session involving concerned senior management. For example, in determining the limits for a manufacturing facility, including recovery time and possible contingent business interruption exposures, the formal meeting would involve the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Operations, Director of Taxation and other warranted financial and operating management. The Think Tank' mission would pursue a hypothetical worst case loss scenario and develop vital information such as replacement cost values, alternate temporary manufacturing capabilities, extra expense exposure, business interruption time period as well as any problems associated with contingent business interruption or inability to meet customer contractual obligations. 5.4 Facility Location Considerations The physical location of a major facility complex has a significant bearing on the potential loss magnitude. A rural setting generally increases the desirability from a crime and exterior fire exposure standpoint but complicates the ...

... the less experienced individual-but the mentor or coach also grows enormously by guiding and observing. Another method of creating a learning environment is to use job assignments to challenge people. Be careful to avoid abandoning them once the assignment is made. After giving someone a challenging job, the manager needs to offer direction and set up check points to give regular feedback that will support and sustain the person through the learning process. This is a good approach when you want to raise an individual's skill level to handle larger accounts or risks in a new industry group. Involve your people. CEOs such as Bill Gates (Microsoft), Lou Gerstner (IBM), and Jack Welch (GE) consistently practice this technique to achieve their incredible results. Employee interviews and surveys, focus groups, and brainstorming think tanks encourage creativity and personal accountability. They'll provide the most accurate information available so management can learn what's happening from both inside and outside your organization. Employees have a front-line perspective not seen by the leaders. Be sure to offer written and verbal ways for employees to provide input. Most people communicate better and more honestly in one form or the other. Most important, pay attention to what your employees say. One suggestion for an interactive employee discussion would be a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) brainstorming session. Select a topic for discussion, such as an analysis of your competitors, your delivery of customer service, or a review of your internal systems. All you need is a flip chart, markers, and masking tape to write down the strengths, weaknesses ...

... . Many political leaders and most of our parents and grandparents criticized the "attitude problem" of these "long-haired hippie freaks." With the hindsight of nearly 50 years, perhaps we should celebrate the positive and passionate attitude of these "freaks" and second-guess all those in power who condemned them. Robert McNamara, a former Ford Motor executive, was Secretary of Defense for JFK and LBJ He was well educated, hard driving, and talented. Most of us would have loved to have him in our organizations. Unfortunately, by his own admission, he was wrong in prosecuting the VietnamWar. As it turned out, the protestors were right. For those of you too young to remember this war, consider instead the student in Tiananmen Square 22 years ago staring down the muzzle of that tank. To freedom-loving Americans his attitude was great – courageous and positive. To executives in the "C-Suite" of the Chinese government he was a "freak" with an "attitude problem." I'm guessing this "problem" might have been eliminated. Someday perhaps China will celebrate that protester. In his New York Times article on the death of Robert S. McNamara Tim Weiner provides insight into the man. "He's like a jackhammer," said Lyndon Johnson. "No human being can take what he takes. He drives too hard. He's too perfect." Well before leaving the Pentagon, McNamara concluded that the war was futile, but he did not share this insight with the public for more than two decades. In 1995, he took a stand against ...
