Pajaro Valley Shelter Services presents the 31st Annual Mother’s Day Run/Walk for Shelter on Sunday, May 10th at Ramsay Park in Watsonville and will include a 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk and a 1K Kids’ Fun Run. Goodies include t-shirts, roses for mothers, medals for winners, continental breakfast and a live DJ. This year, families with strollers will be allowed in the event.  For 31 years, the community of Watsonville has supported PV Shelter’s Mother’s Day Run to ensure the continuation of services for homeless families. The first race was held in 1984 and raised $8,000. with a small crowd in attendance. This year we expect over 600 people to help raise $100,000! This well-loved event can be enjoyed by attendees of all ages and skill levelS, from the competitive runners to the weekend joggers to families who want to walk together. Starting and ending in Ramsay Park, the race route is a beautiful trek around Watsonville’s slough trails. Start your Mother’s Day off by joining the community in supporting the end of homelessness for mothers, their children and families in South County.  The first race starts at 7:45 and the entire event ends at 10:00 am just in time to enjoy the rest of Mother’s Day. “The Mother’s Day Run has become a tradition. Watsonville cyclist Ben Jacques-Maynes will continue his streak of riding in every Tour of California when the race begins its eight-day, 720-mile tour from Northern to Southern California in Sacramento on Sunday. Jacques-Maynes was named to the Jamis-Hagens Berman presented by Sutter Home Continental team when rosters were released Monday. It marks Jacques-Maynes' ninth Tour of California competition. Among the other entrants are Olympians, world and national Champions, Grand Tour stage winners and the only cyclist to win the Tour de France and Olympic gold in the same year — Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins, who did it in 2012. The riders won't pass through Santa Cruz this year, but Jacques-Maynes will see some familiar terrain during Tuesday's Stage 3, which climbs Mount Hamilton and Mount Diablo in San Jose, and Wednesday's Stage 4, which begins in Monterey and stretches along Highway 1 to Cambria. Friday at 5:00pm - 8:00pm Please come and enjoy a country run in Toro Park at the magical time of day known as sunset. With cool temps and beautiful shadows on the course, this time of day provides a great opportunity to run a fast cross country race. Once again we will offer the Kids one mile, 2.2 mile High School 3 Mile Challenge A 4 mile run A "Sunset Runner" is for those diehard runners willing to race a combine 10k of cross country running by doing both the 2.2 and 4 mile runs with just about a 30 minute break in between. Come get in a great summer workout and support Hartnell College Cross Country. This event is open to all ages, abilities, and even dogs!

Our next Second Saturday On The Farm is on Saturday, March 8, 11 am – 3 pm at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, Highway 152 outside Watsonville.  This event is FREE! Donations appreciated. Bring your whole neighborhood to participate! This Second Saturday on the Farm features a scheduled talk on how robots are used in the agriculture industry in Santa Cruz County and around the world, plus LEGO building, robotic car races, programming, drawing a robot, competing sumo robots, hayrides, movies, practice cow milking, and other activities for children. 11:00 am – 3:00 pm:  LEGO building, Robotic car races, Programming a BeeBot robot, drawing a robot, Sumo robotics, and other fun activities for children. 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm:  Learn to Discover, an educational nonprofit organization, will be discussing Robots in the Agriculture Industry. Ongoing:  Our popular tractor driving, practice cow milking, water pumping, and other fun activities for kids. Brian and Shelly Laschkewitsch from Learn to Discover will be facilitating many of the fun learning activities about robotics at this event. Denver is on a mission.  Last year, they were knocked out of the race for the Superbowl when the Ravens beat the Broncos in double overtime.  This year, Peyton and Company's offense boasts more points scored and yards gained than any other team.  In the past, Denver has been to the Superbowl six times and have won twice. Seattle is looking for retribution.  The last time Pete Carroll led the Seahawks to the Superbowl was in 2005 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  At Ford Field, the Steelers beat the Seahawks 21-10.  To this day, calls the referees made that day were nothing short of questionable and may have cost the Seahawks the game.   This will be the second appearance for Seattle at the Superbowl.
