Monday the US government took steps toward opening the skies
to aerial drones. They have authorized six sites, in Alaska, New York, North
Dakota, Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia, where unmanned aircraft will be
tested for a variety of uses. This decision
will be giving companies, universities and others a place to test much broader
uses, such as crop spraying, catching exotic animal’s poachers or delivering
packages. Drones are also popular with law enforcement because they are smaller
and less costly alternatives to manned aircraft. The drones do come with some concern,
such as privacy issues. Some are concerned this will be another way the
government can monitor you. Though Operators of the new FAA test sites are
required to develop a written privacy policy, and to address to safety concerns,
but it is not clear whether the policies will protect privacy.
