Check out these proven ways to attract visitors to your site, keep them there, and get them to return.

Turn your agency Web site into a powerful marketing tool by making it easy to find and offering users value-added services and products. These techniques can help you do the job:

TIP #1: BOOST YOUR SEARCH VISIBILITY

You want your site to be one of the first ones listed when someone uses a Web search engine to locate insurance-related sites. Most search engines prioritize a list of pages they find by the exactness of the match for the word being searched, the number of times the word appears on each Web page, and the position of those words on the page (the closer to the top, the better).

With these facts in mind, here are two ways to make your Web site more visible to search engines:

  • Use multiple keywords: Think of every possible word someone might use to describe your agency's business, products, or services, and make all of those words appear on your home page. You dont have to make them visible text. If you include them as 'metatags' (comments to the HTML code that makes up the page), hide them behind graphics or format them in the same color text as the page background so that they're invisible. The search engine will find them just as easily.
  • Repeat the most important keywords: Put the most likely and descriptive words on your page several times. For example, rather than listing 'business financing' once on your home page, include the term half a dozen times as invisible text near the top of the page.

TIP #2: BUILD AN ONLINE STOREFRONT

Just going online will not drive traffic and sales to your online storefront. To succeed, you'll need to create an online advantage in most cases, your ability to offer more information or greater convenience than the competition. Focus on how your site can make life easier for clients and prospects, and then deliver specific information or services to accomplish this goal.

For example, offer clients who might not be able to phone in policy changes, certificate requests, and so forth during business hours the ability to enter this information around the clock. Your site might also provide online information on various coverages or offer e-mail links to the agency employees best qualified to answer specific questions.

TIP #3: ALLOCATE YOUR TIME ONLINE

You can't just open a Web site storefront and then watch the business flow in without having to go online again. Maintaining online visibility requires continuous effort and participation. Constantly plan new ways to make your business visible, whether by scouting out new advertising sites or directories, adding to your Web site, participating in discussions, or planning an online publication or conference.

Implement these recommendations on your site and you'll see your sales and profits grow!
