As the housing market improves, buyers can, once again get a low down payment mortgage with as little as 3.5% down. Traditionally a 20% down payment is required for a mortgage. It is virtually impossible for people who are paying rent each month to save up enough for a 20% down payment. For potential homebuyers these lower down payments are a good thing for many people. Depending on your lender and your financial history (especially your credit scores), a lower down payment may mean a higher interest rate. A half percent interest rate can make a difference of nearly $25,000 over 30 years! Anytime you put less than 20% down on you home (except with some specialized loan programs; you will have to pay what’s called private mortgage insurance. This insurance goes to a third party, and basically guarantees the Leander that if you default on your loan, the lender will get their money back out of the investment. If you get private mortgage insurance it will cost you anywhere from $50 a month to more than $100, this will be added to your mortgage payments. Do you think Private Mortgage Insurance is worth the extra cost?

On July 12 the House voted, yet again, to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law. The results were 244 to 185, favoring the new law. Although many republicans were disappointed that this attempt to repeal failed, it will still allow citizens access to health insurance. Many Life/Health agents that I speak with, are unsure how this new health law will affect them personally, but many are going out of their way to explain to their clients how this will affect them. It seems there are two-sides to this coin. One side says it will raise costs higher for small business owners and drive the economy even further down. On the other hand many support this new health law, saying it will decrease the insurance companies control, opening the availability of insurance to thousands. How will this effect you and your book of business?

Hello, I am in need of a market that can provide a $3M per occurrence GL/PL policy for two Security Consulting firms. One is in VA and the other is in DC. The VA firm is new firm and the DC firm has been around for a year and a half. They will be working for a high profile Organization, doing background checks and investigations (on high profile people) that work for the organization. In addition, they will do general security consulting, to make sure that the Organizations policies and procedures are being followed by the in house security staff. I have declinations from Maxum, Capitol Specialty and Darwin. Markel and Vela have offered to do the PL. Many thanks for any help.

Hi, Our client is a company who leases furnished apartments to traveling businessmen and their families across the country. Our client would like to get a General Liability policy that would cover both their business operations and have an endorsement that would extend coverage to the liability of the tenants. Does anyone know of an insurance company who has done that in the past, or would be able to do it? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
