The amount of influence you have refers to how well you are able to convince others to accept your point of view.
The primary social motivation of influential (high-I) people is to be convincing and impressive. The high-I person is people-oriented and loves it when they are around people to be convinced, motivated, and 'sold.'
High-influence people are generally self-confident, gracious and easy-going when meeting strangers, and are very comfortable in one-on-one situations. In fact, the real telling factor of a high-I personality is not the ability to speak in public, but rather the ability to get agreement in one-on-one situations. (If you haven't already recognized it, this outgoing, personable style typifies the image of the so-called 'natural salesperson.')
The high-influence individual has a great need to be popular, achieve social recognition, live well, and influence those around him or her. Because of an inherent trust and willing acceptance of people, the high-I may sometimes misjudge others' intentions and/or abilities. The high-I can be guilty of overestimating his or her persuasive abilities, and may be shocked when losing a verbal tug-of-war.
People tend to respond favorably to the high-I person's warmth and charm, and the high-I person is rewarded by that favorable response. An environment that is people-dominated and full of variety is a much better fit for the high-I individual than a materialistic or non-interactive environment.
The high-I individual is good at contacting strangers, making a favorable first impression, generating enthusiasm, entertaining people, and competing on a friendly basis. He or she can usually be found to be committed to the belief that 'the glass is half full-and getting fuller.'
Their innate optimism, outgoing nature, and charisma help high-influence people get along well with clients and co-workers, making them excellent contributors to any work group.
Understanding different personality types (and having an idea of where you and your co-workers are on the spectrum) will help you to achieve success-both on the job and in your personal life.
