There is a national “epidemic” of opioid usage.  This is something that has gained quite a bit
of public attention, but there is a much less publicized battle being waged by
workers’ compensation stakeholders who are stepping up efforts to call more
attention to the use of the potent pain relieving narcotics by injured workers.

“It’s a big problem, and it’s a growing problem,” said Dr.
Leonard J. Paulozzi, a medical epidemiologist with CDC’s National Center for
Injury Prevention & Control.  Dr.
Leonard J. Paulozzi has not only been studying the impact of opioid overdoses,
but also the issue of overuse among the American population.  He sees that the problem with this drug seems
to be seen more among the injured worker population?

Louisianan and New York are among some of the worst states
for this misuse of opioids.  Is this
something that your company or your clients company should keep an eye out for?
