One of the biggest frustrations in the world of business is meeting someone, shaking hands, exchanging thoughts and ideas, and promptly forgetting their name. Most articles about this subject are aimed at improving name retention.
There are many excellent courses and books about how to improve memory. They help eliminate that dumb feeling when someone's name is forgotten and the anger that is felt when it becomes apparent that a person realizes the memory lapse but doesn't offer assistance. Never let prospects and clients forget your name. Reintroduce yourself at every possible opportunity. If a prospect or client that you've met is with another person, introduce yourself to the second person, then greet the prospect/client in a friendly manner of recognition. Never put prospects/clients in an embarrassing position.
When introducing yourself, make it easy for others to remember your name with visualization. For example, 'Hi, I'm Tom Markley. I've always wanted to see my name on a marquee.' The picture of Tom Markley on a marquee is mentally formed. Alliteration and rhyme also help.
