LET THERE BE LESS LIGHT
Dimmer overhead light means greater comfort when you're working at your computer, advises the American Optometric Association. As a rule, lighting levels should be set at about 20 to 50 foot-candles-that's about half the level found in most offices. Other eye-saving recommendations:
- Use dimmer switches or lower-intensity fluorescent tubes.
- Avoid reflected glare on the screen by angling it away from windows and other sources of bright light.
- Set up your offices so the screen is 14 to 20 inches from eyes, with the top just below eye level.
- Rest your eyes for several minutes every hour by switching to a non-computer task.
