I've been fortunate to be a part of the insurance industry for over 30 years. I'll take any phone call or respond to almost any email inquiry where the person on the other end wants to talk insurance or potentially buy insurance.
Late last year, I got a call. The kind that leads of with "You don't know me, but...." I thought, based upon my experience, that whoever this was, it wasn't the first time they had spoken to an insurance broker and it wasn't the first time a broker told them that what they wanted to do was impossible.
I let him talk and explain what he was doing, how he was doing it and why he wanted to insure it. At first, I was amazed at how hard he had tried to find insurance. But, when he told me that he was trying, as an individual without a license, to start his own company and that he was calling directly to top "C" level executives at various carriers and re-insurers, and not having luck. I could only feel bad for the guy. After he downloaded as much information as he could, I asked him why he had never called an insurance broker during all this time! The answer wasn't important nor would it have made any difference.
He had my sympathies and interest.
From this one phone call, I have put together my first Property & Casualty Insurance Program. It's rather innovative and makes a great deal of sense in today's economy. It's a specialized Commercial Cyber Insurance Program. I know what you're thinking: There are tons of those out there! I agree. And I've only sold a few that were added as endorsements to existing policies. So my experience isn't deep or educated. I've never been asked about it, I didn't ask my clients about it and life continued. But, with this new client, we were able to invent something that really makes sense and is completely marketable by the insurance agents who care about their customers and have a deep understanding of their customers' businesses.
We married two companies, ABAXIO (www.abaxio.com) and Benchmark Cyber Partners (www.benchmarkcyber.com) to create a program that provides each customer with a base Cyber Insurance plan of $50,000 of coverage. It's married with either a completely secure Back-Up program or Internet Based Tools to assess a client's vulnerability to an attack or their potential weaknesses in their Data Systems. It also offers DDoS and other penetration defenses as an option to the more sophisticated purchaser of Data Security Services.
By combining forces with a real and experience Data Security and Hosting Company, we're able to provide a product that suits the needs of most customers. The Data Hosting World is going to start offering this soon to their in-force customers. Benchmark is at the forefront of introducing that concept to that industry. You, too, can create a relationship or maybe already have a relationship with a Data company. If so, great! We'd like to partner and show you and your client how they can help their customers AND create a very profitable revenue stream in the process.
