I have been hearing some version of the same prediction for the last three or four years:
AI is going to kill Google. Email is getting impossible. Nobody visits websites anymore.
There is usually a dramatic chart involved, followed by somebody explaining why the marketing channel
you have been using successfully for 15 years will apparently cease to exist sometime next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, here at CompleteMarkets, something inconvenient keeps happening:
agents keep searching, agents keep opening email, and agents keep submitting business.
In fact, we are seeing the opposite of what a lot of the doom-and-gloom predictions suggested.
Search and email have not disappeared. They have become more technical, more selective and, when done
correctly, considerably more powerful.
That is the real marketing story going into 2027:
AI did not eliminate search or email. It raised the price of doing them badly — and increased the
value of doing them well.

Remember When AI Was Supposed to Kill Google?
When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, there was no shortage of predictions that traditional search was
finished.
I was skeptical then, and the numbers now make the point better than I ever could.
$162.5 Billion → $224.5 Billion
Google Search & Other revenue, 2022 to 2025
Approximately 38% growth.
Google Search & Other revenue increased from approximately $162.5 billion in 2022 to $224.5 billion
in 2025. And in the fourth quarter of 2025, Google reported another 17% year-over-year increase in Search
revenue.
Even more interesting: Google itself says Search usage reached an all-time high while AI features were
being added directly into the search experience.
Apparently, search forgot to die.

Insurance Search Is Different From Shopping for a Pair of Shoes
This is where a lot of broad marketing commentary misses the insurance industry entirely.
An independent agent is not searching for entertainment. He or she often has an account sitting on the
desk that needs a market.
For example:
"I have a pest control contractor with commercial auto, technicians in three states and a pollution
exposure. Who can write it?"
That is not merely a keyword search. It is an insurance distribution problem.
The agent needs to find the right program, understand the appetite, determine whether the account fits,
contact the provider and, ideally, submit the application.
AI can help the agent research the answer. Google can help the agent discover the answer.
CompleteMarkets can help put the right advertiser inside that answer.
That distinction is important.
We are not trying to attract everybody on the Internet. We are trying to connect specialty insurance
providers with the independent agents who have business to place.
The Two Sides of Specialty Insurance Distribution
For years I have looked at CompleteMarkets marketing as two complementary systems.
ACTIVE DISTRIBUTION
We put the insurance product in front of agents through targeted email campaigns.
The goal is to create awareness, conversations, inquiries and submissions.
INTENT-BASED DISCOVERY
We build and optimize Storefront content so agents can find the market when they are actively
looking for it.
The goal is to capture demand that already exists.
One pushes the opportunity to the agent.
The other makes sure the advertiser can be found when the agent needs the opportunity.
Put them together and you have something much more valuable than an ad.

Email Marketing: There Is a Big Difference Between Sending Email and Creating Business
CompleteMarkets has been doing mass email marketing for the insurance industry for a very long time.
I have also written before about how much harder the job has become.
Spam filters are better. Microsoft and Google are more aggressive. Sender reputation matters.
Engagement matters. Authentication matters. List quality matters. Frequency matters.
And now AI-driven inbox defenses are making those decisions even more sophisticated.
None of that means email no longer works.
It means the old "load 250,000 names and hit SEND" approach is increasingly stupid.
We Generally Use Email in Two Different Ways
Passive / Branding
Brochure-style campaigns are useful for product education, branding, appetite announcements and
keeping a company visible to agents.
Active / Response Driven
These campaigns are written differently. We use concise, personalized copy and a strong call to
action designed to make the agent reply, ask a question or submit an account.
Both have value. But when a client tells me, "I want submissions," I do not want to send them a pretty
electronic brochure and congratulate ourselves on the open rate.
I want the agent to do something.
Instead of simply saying:
"We write contractors."
A response-oriented campaign is much closer to:
"Have a contractor account you are having trouble placing? Send it to us."
Small difference in appearance. Huge difference in intent.
Why We Don't Blast All 269,240 Agents at Once
CompleteMarkets currently has access to 269,240 independent P&C agents and brokers
across the United States.
That does not mean every campaign should go to 269,240 people.
Quite the opposite.
Our larger campaigns are generally limited to roughly 50,000-55,000 recipients at a time. We can manage
geographic targeting, list fatigue, responsiveness, timing and campaign frequency rather than repeatedly
beating up the same inboxes.
We also prioritize responsive recipients and time sends around practical considerations such as time
zones and the days that historically perform better.
OLD MASS EMAIL
Biggest list possible
Same message to everybody
Send it all at once
Count opens and clicks
CURRENT COMPLETEMARKETS APPROACH
Select the right audience
Prioritize responsive agents
Manage frequency and fatigue
Drive replies, conversations and submissions
The important number is not how many email addresses somebody claims to own.
The important question is what happens after the email arrives.
Storefront SEO: Be There When the Account Lands on the Agent's Desk
Email is excellent at introducing a market before the agent needs it.
Search is excellent at finding the market when the agent suddenly does.
That is why our Storefronts have become increasingly important.
A good Specialty Insurance Storefront is no longer a page containing a company logo, five bullets and the
phrase "General Liability Insurance" repeated twelve times.
We build content around the questions an agent is likely to have:
- Who is this program for?
- What classes are eligible?
- What coverage is available?
- What are the important exposures?
- Where is the program available?
- What information is needed?
- How does the agent contact the market?
- How does the agent submit the account?
That content serves three audiences at the same time:
the agent, the search engine and increasingly the AI system interpreting the page.
SEO for AI Search Is Still SEO — Just Better SEO
This is another area where terminology has gotten a little silly.
SEO. AEO. GEO. AI Optimization. AI Search Optimization.
Call it whatever you like.
The underlying job is still remarkably familiar: publish useful, authoritative information that clearly
answers the question and gives the reader somewhere useful to go next.
We have been adapting CompleteMarkets Storefront content specifically for that environment.
If an agent reaches one of our advertisers through a traditional blue Google link, wonderful.
If Google summarizes the information inside an AI result and still points the agent toward the market,
wonderful.
If another AI research tool interprets the page and identifies the advertiser as a relevant specialty
market, wonderful.
I am much less interested in what the industry eventually decides to call the technology than I am in
whether the agent ultimately contacts our advertiser.
A ranking is not the finish line.
The finish line is an agent asking a question, sending an ACORD, uploading an application or submitting
an account.
The Website Itself Is Becoming More Active
There is one more development that I think will matter quite a bit over the next couple of years.
Websites have traditionally been passive.
Somebody arrives. They read. Maybe they click a button. Maybe they leave.
AI gives us the ability to make that experience conversational.
Our Storefront AI Assistant can use the advertiser's own program information, Storefront content and
supporting documents to help an agent understand the program and move toward the appropriate next step.
That means the path can increasingly look like this:
Email / Search

Storefront

The Agent Probably Will Not Convert on the First Touch
This is something marketers occasionally forget because attribution software likes neat answers.
Real people are messy.
An agent may receive an email from one of our clients today and do absolutely nothing.
Three weeks later a difficult account hits the desk.
The agent remembers the company name, searches for the market, finds the CompleteMarkets Storefront,
reads the program information and submits the account.
So which piece "worked"?
The email?
Google?
The Storefront?
The brand exposure?
The answer is usually some combination of all of them.
That is exactly why I believe specialty insurance companies should stop looking at email, SEO,
re-marketing and AI as isolated marketing purchases.
They are parts of the same distribution system.
So What Should Be in a 2027 Specialty Insurance Marketing Budget?
September is when many of our clients begin thinking seriously about next year's budgets, and my advice
is fairly simple.
Do not build the entire plan around one channel.
You want the ability to reach agents before they need your program.
You want to be discoverable when they need your program.
You want enough useful content to convince them that you understand the class.
You want an obvious way for them to contact you.
And you want additional opportunities to reach the agents who were interested but were not ready the
first time.
Email + Search + Content + AI + Re-Marketing
Not five unrelated products.
One specialty insurance distribution strategy.
What Makes CompleteMarkets Different?
CompleteMarkets is not a general advertising website that happens to have some insurance visitors.
Insurance is the network.
We currently connect advertisers with more than 269,000 independent P&C agents and brokers.
Our advertising programs combine targeted email campaigns, Product Storefronts, search exposure,
re-marketing, creative services and, increasingly, AI-assisted engagement.
If you write contractors, trucking, cyber, hospitality, healthcare, environmental, professional
liability or some obscure niche that only 700 people outside the insurance industry have ever heard of,
you do not need everybody on the Internet.
You need the right agents.
Preferably when they have an account.
And preferably with a big obvious button that says, in one form or another:
"Send it to us."
AI Will Keep Changing. So Will We.
I would love to tell you that search, email and AI will settle into some nice predictable format in
2027 and everybody can stop changing things for a while.
I don't believe that for a second.
Google will change. Microsoft will change. AI systems will change. Inbox defenses will change.
Agent behavior will change.
The companies that struggle will be the ones waiting for everything to settle down before adapting.
We started adapting CompleteMarkets early, and we will continue doing it as quickly as the technology
requires.
Because despite all of the technology surrounding it, the business objective is refreshingly unchanged.
Get the right insurance product in front of the right agent.
Start a conversation.
Generate a submission.
Write premium.
Long live email marketing.
Long live Specialty Insurance SEO.
And apparently, despite several years of obituaries, long live Google Search too.
